Thousands Of Students To See 'Narnia' At McCallum

Students throughout the Coachella Valley will be treated to special performances of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe," presented May 24-25 at The McCallum Theatre.

An estimated 6,500 students, already anxious for summer vacation, will be leaving the classroom for a field trip to The McCallum Theatre to enjoy C.S. Lewis’ fantasy favorite “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.”

This production is an original adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic, written by John Robinette, and made possible by a grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, which supports educational and other charitable projects.

Working with a cast of 60 local students, the theater company in charge of the endeavor, Children’s Playtime Productions, will present six performances spanning two days. It’s a big task to accomplish, but standard protocol for the CPP, a local non-profit corporation operating the last remaining children’s theatre company in the Coachella Valley.

Engaging all aspects of theater production, the CPP takes student actors through rehearsals, costume and set construction, make-up and stagecraft. Families and teachers are encouraged, sometimes cajoled, into helping with the large-scale productions.

Participating teachers are provided with Educational Support Packets that offer lesson plans and exercises for class use before and after the McCallum performances.
