Voting To Keep Coachella, Stagecoach in Indio

A two-year contract with Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals is being considered for approval tonight by the Indio City Council, keeping the popular music festivals in the area.

The Indio City Council today will look at the future of music in the Coachella Valley – a future of a city’s music scene that is spoken with the same reverence as “Woodstock” – and will consider approving a new two-year contract with Coachella and Stagecoach concert organizers.

The council will examine a 2012-2013 draft special events agreement, which includes permits, with Goldenvoice LLC, coordinator of the annual music festivals at the Empire Polo Club.

Clearly, the city knows the worldwide popularity these concerts bring to the Coachella Valley, as everyone from Madonna to Kings of Leon have played at Coachella, while country music greats from Tim McGraw to Rascal Flatts have graced the stage at Stagecoach.

“Coachella and Stagecoach are widely known as premier concerts that bring top performers from around the world and their fans to Indio,” City Human Services Manager Jim Curtis wrote to the council. “The events have been financially successful for the promoter, hotels and other service related businesses.”

The council will also consider approving an agreement in which Goldenvoice would contribute $300,000 toward improvements to Monroe Street between avenues 49 and 52, according to the agenda.
