Tomorrow's checkpoint in Palm Desert targets mechanical issues
The California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Sheriff's Department will do safety inspection on commercial vehicles in Palm Desert tomorrow, a CHP spokesman said today.
Officers with the CHP's Desert Hills Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
Facility and sheriff's deputies will focus on brakes, wheel integrity, steering components and driver fatigue, CHP Officer Keith Loonsfoot said.
"Mechanical defects are at times a contributing factor to collisions involving commercial vehicles. Many times these mechanical issues can have
catastrophic consequences, impacting traffic and more importantly can result in
the tragic loss of life,'' Loonsfoot said.
