CHP to Offer Teen Driving Class

Free class to help teens deal with situations that arise while driving.

The California Highway Patrol in Indio will offer another "Start Smart" teen driver education class on Tuesday, June 19th, beginning at 6:30 PM.  The class is designed for those teenagers soon to be driving or already driving and between the ages of 15 and 20.

The free teen driving class will be offered to Parents and their teen drivers  at the California Highway Patrol Office, 79-650 Varner Road, in Indio.

The CHP’s "Start Smart" Program includes a variety of instruction designed to help teens who are about to, or have already received their driver’s license, be better equipped to handle those situations they will face while behind the wheel.  The CHP’s goal is to begin a learning process that parents can then continue which will help teen drivers become more aware of the responsibilities and ramifications that accompany having a driver’s license.

Statistics show that young drivers who have recently received their driver’s licenses are five times more likely to be involved in a vehicle collision.  The leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 to 20 is vehicle collisions.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 5,000 teens (ages 16-20) are killed in passenger vehicle collisions each year.

A reservation for this class is required and certificates of participation will be available upon completion.  Parents must call (760) 772-8911 to sign up.  Any and all questions are welcome.  Parents are required to attend with their teen(s).
