Health Care Conference Brings 1,400 to Palm Desert

Leaders in healthcare to meet and discuss health care policy in a conference at the JW Marriott Desert Springs.

Several experts on health policy and politics will join 1,400 physicians and health care leaders for a conference in Palm Desert today.

The California Association of Physician Groups will hold its annual
Healthcare Conference at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort today and
Saturday. Topics will include market consolidation, health care reform and
coverage expansion.

Speakers will include Dr. Donald Berwick, former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and professor at Harvard Medical School; Harold Miller, executive director of the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform and CEO of the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement; and Shannon Brownlee, acting director of the New America Foundation Health Policy Program in Washington, D.C., and author of "Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer.''

A health care panel on Saturday will include Ann Boynton, deputy
executive officer of benefits Administration for the California Public
Employees' Retirement System; Bruce Bodaken, president and CEO of Blue Shield of California; and Thomas Priselac, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health Systems.

The California Association of Physician Groups represents groups that
employ or contract with about 60,000 California doctors and provide care to 15
million people in the state.
