The next few weeks are some of the busiest of the year for two local stay-at-home moms.

April 11th kicks off the sixth Monkey in the Middle Consignment Event for Brianna Van Lierop of Riverside and Jules Loya of La Quinta.  The 3-day kids’ and maternity consignment event takes place in a vacant retail space in the Palm Desert Costco Shopping Center (72-680 Dinah Shore Drive Ste#3) April 11 – 13th, 2014.

When longtime friends Van Lierop and Loya had children and decided to become stay-at-home moms, they soon realized that as single income households, they needed to get creative in ways to fashionably dress their kids on a tightened budged.  This led them to shopping at consignment events.  When they saw all of the amazing deals, they quickly came up with the idea to hold an event themselves and Monkey in the Middle was born.

“We realized the need for this not only for our families, but also for the families in the desert that want to buy the nicest clothes and toys for their children but might not necessarily be able to afford those high-end labels,” said Julianna Loya owner/partner of Monkey in the Middle.  “At our consignment event you will find those name brand items, but for a fraction of the cost that you will buy them new.”

Van Lierop and Loya are a two-woman show, working tirelessly for months to make sure this twice-annual event runs smoothly.  Every item that is to be sold at Monkey in the Middle is hand inspected by them before it hits the shelves, ensure that no item has been recalled or is damaged.

Last year’s event drew over 200 consignors and over 30,000 items.  Consignors earn 65% of the total profit and many items that do not sell after the event is over are donated to Martha's Village and Kitchen.

Organizers Van Lierop and Loya are “thrilled to help local families stay within budget while being green, support and promote local businesses, and give back to the community by facilitating the donation of unsold items.”

Monkey in the Middle is the desert's only kids’ and maternity consignment event where consignors from around the desert sell their gently used kids and maternity items, helping families to stay green by leaving a smaller footprint on Earth - REDUCE-REUSE-REWEAR.

Monkey in the Middle also offers a Gift Shop Boutique featuring local and Southern California mom-based businesses selling handmade and new boutique items.

“Monkey in the Middle is a win-win approach that allows consignors to liquidate items their families have grown out of and receive 65-70% of their selling price – far higher than traditional consignment stores and, shoppers will find truly amazing deals on everyday items you need,” said Van Lierop, owner/partner of Monkey in the Middle.
