Magazine Veteran Joins Palm Springs Life, Desert Publications

A magazine veteran has been appointed editor of Palm Springs Life and editorial director of Desert Publications, it was announced Tuesday.

Julie Sinclair "will serve as editor-in-chief of Palm Springs Life magazine while overseeing the content, design, and budgeting of all existing regional and custom titles," Desert Publications officials said in a statement dated Jan. 21.

Sinclair will also develop new print and digital publications, Desert Publications officials said. Sinclair replaces Steven Biller.

"Julie comes to us as a seasoned editor-in-chief and executive editor of both national and regional consumer magazines," Desert Publications' Associate Publisher Frank Jones said in the announcement. "A proven brand manager, she knows how to successfully lead the vision, voice, creative execution, and content strategy of publications and websites. We're thrilled to have her on board."

Sinclair comes to Palm Springs Live with more than 20 years in the magazine industry, Desert Publications officials said.

Sinclair spent the bulk of her career at national consumer lifestyle titles based in New York City. She has held a variety of positions in consumer publications, including special projects editor at This Old House magazine, managing editor at Woman’s Day Special Interest Publications, and executive editor at Hearst Specials, where she managed such titles as Good Housekeeping Do It Yourself, House Beautiful Kitchens/Baths, and Home Remodeling & Decorating Ideas among others. She has also been managing editor at Bridal Guide and editor-in-chief of Spa magazine. Throughout her career, she has overseen interiors/décor, bridal, health, food, beauty, fashion, wellness, and travel content.

Sinclair gained regional magazine experience as managing editor at Marin  magazine in the Bay Area, where she directed a redesign and re-visioning of the brand's content as well as managed the day-to-day production of each issue. Most recently, Sinclair was senior director and executive editor in the marketing and communications department at California State University, Northridge, where she launched and oversaw its online newsroom as well as the university's magazine and social media channels.

Desert Publications Inc. publishes Palm Springs Life and several other Southern California regional titles as well as publications in Monterey, Calif.; El Paso, Texas; and New Mexico and produces two annual events: Fashion Week El Paseo and Palm Desert Food+Wine Festival.

The company is billed as "an innovative leader in city and regional print, web, and multimedia publishing and has been based in beautiful downtown Palm Springs for more than 50 years."
