Palm Desert Postal Annex+ Back Open After Mercedes Slams Thru Store

After just about two months from when a car plowed through the glass storefront to a local business, the location is now back open, representatives tell Palm Desert Patch.

The crash happened on March 13, when a 74-year-old Indio man drove his 2009 Mercedes Benz C300 into a parking spot right in front of the Postal Annex+ at 78206 Varner Rd– and just kept going into the store, according to CHP officials.

The store, located in a shopping center at the corner of Washington Street and Varner Road, had to close down due to the major damage.  They were finally able to reopen May 9.

“We are so sorry for the inconvenience our customers experienced and are so glad no one was hurt,” said owner Clint Rodgers. “We really appreciate and are grateful for the outpouring of support and concern we received from our valued and loyal customers, and we are back, ready to serve the Palm Desert community’s packing and shipping needs better than ever.”

Rodgers says that even when his physical store was officially closed, he made sure locals got their mail.

"Even with the store temporarily closed, Rodgers worked with his box holders to ensure they continued to receive their mail and packages," a press release from Postal Annex stated.
