Ribbon Cutting Set For New Art Museum in Palm Desert

The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert -- known as The Galen -- is opening this month.

Palm Desert officials are expected to celebrate the opening of the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert this Thursday.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15 at the Entrade de Paseo, off Highway 111 near El Paseo, according to the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce.

Palm Desert Mayor Robert Spiegel is expected to attend and make a few remarks. The entire City Council is also slated to make an appearance, according to the city.

The Galen includes 8,500 square feet of interior space and over five acres set aside for a sculpture garden, which has attracted from the Palm Desert City Council.

The Palm Desert museum is named after patron Helene Galen for her contribution of $1 million.
