Shop Local Event To Reward Shoppers

The EXPO gives local businesses an opportunity to become more involved in the community by having a booth, showing off their services, products or wares, meeting the people face-to-face and rewarding them for choosing local by offering giveaways, coupons,

More than 40 Coachella Valley businesses -- mostly from Palm Desert -- will offer deals and promotions to shoppers as part of the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce's Shop Local event today.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mall on Highway 111 at Monterey Avenue in Palm Desert.

“The goal is to celebrate our area businesses, get the community excited about shopping local and reward them for doing it," said Barbara deBoom, the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce president/CEO.

The businesses who will have booths at the event include , , , , , , , , and .

Other Palm Desert-based businesses include Olive A Sudden, Mathnasium of Palm Desert, White Oasis Leadership, Shelter From The Storm, Service Ready, Senior Lifestyle Sources, Revco Solar Engineering, Fortune Real Estate School, Always Best Care Senior Services, Beach House Yogurt, City of Palm Desert/Set To Save and FitzHenry-Wiefels Palm Desert Mortuary.

The event's sponsor -- Hire Standards, Americas Pool Service -- will offer a walk-in cash cube, giving shoppers the opportunity to win some money.

According to Katie Slimko, the EXPO is aimed to give local businesses an opportunity to interact with shoppers and offer giveaways such as coupons, Groupon-type deals and other discounts.

Westfield Palm Desert usually sees about 29,000 people walk through on a Saturday in the spring, Slimko said.
