Tesla Opens First Local Sales, Service Center Friday
Appointments to test drive a Tesla Model S at the grand opening may be scheduled online at www.teslamotors.com.
Electric carmaker Tesla will open its first sales and service center in the Coachella Valley Friday.
The grand opening of Tesla Palm Springs is at 10 a.m. at 68080 Perez Road in Cathedral City -- the former site of a Hyundai dealership in the Cathedral City Auto Center. The facility is the only Tesla center listed in the Coachella Valley, according to the company's website.

Tesla was started in 2003 by PayPal co-founder Elon Musk, who is planning a giant Tesla battery cell factory at a to-be-announced location. Tesla also makes a Roadster sports car and is coming out with an SUV, the Model X, next year.
