La Quinta City Council Member Dies at 85

City councilman of twenty-five years, Stanley Sniff, passed away on the morning of November 29, 2011.

The City of La Quinta mourns the passing of Stanley "Stan" Sniff, a member of the City Council for twenty-five years who died on Tuesday, November 29, due to an undisclosed illness at the age of 85.

Sniff had served as a city councilman since 1986, when La Quinta's population was a scant 7,170—making him the longest-serving member in La Quinta history. Now with an estimated populace of 40,000, the city's growth and development is due in part by Sniff's dedication to bettering The Gem of the Desert.

A piece of public art was dedicated to Sniff previously on the lake of the La Quinta Civic Center Park on November 15, and still remains in memoriam to the city councilman.

Sniff is pre-deceased by City Manager Tom Genovese who died on November 20, 2011, after collapsing on a hiking trail. Council members will hold elections to fill Sniff's position on December 6. The winning La Quinta resident will serve his/her term during the 2012 year.
