Sullivan Solar Power Celebrates Summer Solstice

Leading the solar energy revolution, Sullivan Solar Power strives to educate local communities on the benefits of going solar. The summer solstice provides the perfect opportunity  to raise public awareness and educate the public on the most abundant natural resource in the world we have available to us, solar radiation. This year the summer solstice lands on June 21st- the day in which the sun shines longer than any other day of the year!  Eighty-seven percent of all America’s solar energy is in the state of California, however, less than one percent of our energy is generated by solar power.

There are three main reasons to go solar, these include financial incentives, environmental impact, and the support of the national economy. From a financial perspective, the Federal Government currently offers a 30% tax credit for installed renewable energy projects and is available until 2016. Additional financial benefits are the savings you will see from your monthly electric bill, especially those who fall within tiers three and four. In September, the electricity rates will be increasing. Adopting solar power can protect you from rate increases, resulting in increased savings. As you know, solar power is a clean, renewable resource and offsets carbon emissions, as well as decreasing the need for unsustainable peaker power plants. Solar power has a positive environmental impact that directly affects communities on a local and international level.

Recent results from a study done by Applied Materials Inc., a semiconductor company that releases solar technology and industry statics each year on the summer solstice,  measured customer understanding and awareness of  renewable energy and illustrated some interesting data. Results found that two-thirds of Americans believe that solar power should play a greater role in the country’s energy needs.  Moreover, three-quarters of Americans feel that increasing renewable energy and increasing American independence from foreign oil should be at the top of the priority list. Nearly half (46%) of the respondents think that solar technology will positively impact the job market by creating more jobs for  electricians, engineers, sales and marketing, and project development. This data shows that Americans realize that “going solar” would positively impact many aspects of American society.
