Bono Mack, Nestande Among Panelists at Free Health Summit

Mental health care leaders will review a plan designed to increase access to mental health services in the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass area.

The Coachella Valley Health Collaborative will hold a mental health summit at Cal State San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus Friday.

Panelists for the free summit, which starts at 8:30 a.m. in the campus's Indian Wells Theater, include Rep. Mary Bono Mack, Assemblymen Brian Nestande and V. Manuel Perez and Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit. Ron Manderscheid, executive director of the National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors, will be the keynote speaker.

In the afternoon, mental health care leaders have been invited to review a plan designed to reduce mental illness stigma and increase access to mental health services in the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass area. They will be asked to develop action plans and to implement them, campus spokesman Mike Singer said.

Members of the public can attend the morning session of the summit, Singer said.

Brian Nestande's participation in this summit is disingenuous at best. His vote on healthcare and women's issues has been nothing short of barbaric. He has voted against every major healthcare initiative to cross his desk during his tenure in the State Assembly. Nestande does not care about healthcare or the people who need it most! For example, Nestande: Voted against mental health treatment for veterans convicted of a crime! Voted multiple times to deny women access to contraceptives! Voted multiple times to deny pregnant women health insurance coverage! Voted to deny minors access to STD treatments! Voted to deny farm workers the right to correct workplace health-code violations! Voted against State compliance with Federal healthcare laws! Check his record for yourself at http://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/104422/brian-nestande#.UIrCYMW3N8E

I read Mr. Nestande's voting record. He's certainly a "piece of work". What is he doing at a mental health summit when he voted AGAINST adding mental health treatment to a health plan. He is totally ignorant about mental health problems!
