Construction to Affect Palm Desert Commuters

A right turn lane will he installed along the road near City Hall.

A portion of westbound Fred Waring Drive will be reduced to one lane starting today as crews install a right-turn lane.

Westbound Fred Waring will be down to one lane between San Pascual and San Pablo avenues until early September while crews create a turn lane into the Palm Desert Civic Center complex. The project is part of ongoing work in the area of Fred Waring and Monterey Avenue, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

Work will be done during the day, but equipment will remain set up overnight, according to the city's public works department.

Northbound lanes of Monterey Avenue are blocked between Gran Via and Fred Waring for drainage work -- with one lane of traffic moving in each direction on the southbound side. That closure will continue until mid-August, Hermann said.

Both projects are expected to cause delays, and motorists should use alternate routes such as Bob Hope Drive and Cook Street, Hermann said.
