Local University Building Receives Award

The Health Sciences Building on the Palm Desert campus is given Gold LEED Certification for environmentally sustainable construction.

The Health Sciences Bulding on the Cal State University -  San Bernardino Palm Desert campus has been given Gold LEED Cerfification for its environmentally friendliness.

It’s the second building in Palm Desert to be Gold LEED certified in the past year.

The Health Sciences Building opened in 2008, and offers indirect natural light, high efficiency lighting and water systems and building materials with recycled content.  Approximately 90 percent of construction and demolition debris was recycled or diverted from landscapes, according to the University.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Envorinmental Design) Certification measures building sustainability.  Factors include building materials, energy efficiency, sustainable landscaping and handling of waste products.

In August 2011, the new Palm Desert Sheriff’s Substation Gold LEED certification.
