CSUSB Palm Desert Offers Healthcare Jobs Seminar

Local Branch of California State University San Bernardino to offer information about growing jobs in healthcare.

In response to the current economy and high unemployment rates, Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus will host an information session that will focus on training people for careers in the growing healthcare industry.

The session will be on Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m. in the Mary Stuart Rogers Gateway Building, Room RG 303.

Within the healthcare industry, jobs in medical transcription and medical coding and billing are increasing, as well as those for pharmacy technicians and medical administrative assistants. The non-degree allied health certificate programs offered at CSUSB by the university’s extension department provide the opportunity to those in the community to quickly gain the education they need to qualify for these jobs.

“This information session is designed to help people discover growing career fields that they can train for quickly,” said Steve McAdams, program administrator in the College of Extended Learning at CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus. “Healthcare is where the jobs are, and we can help students prepare for successful careers in the healthcare industry in less than a year. Cal State San Bernardino is the only school in the region that offers these specific online courses.”

The current economy has reduced the number of jobs in many industries, resulting in some of the highest unemployment rates in decades. However, healthcare is one of the few bright spots - it is experiencing job growth despite the economy. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the healthcare industry will create 3.2 million new jobs before 2018, with the majority requiring less than four years of college education.
