Free Local Conference Focuses on Symptoms, Prevention of Heart Disease

Eisenhower Medical Center will host the 10th annual Community Heart Conference Feb. 2 at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences.

The event, part of American Heart Month, will focus on symptoms and prevention of heart disease, and the latest treatments, Eisenhower spokeswoman Lee Rice said.

Dr. Barry Hackshaw, medical director of Eisenhower's Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and president of Eisenhower Desert Cardiology Center, will give a keynote speech on atrial fibrillation, a condition affecting more than 2 million Americans each year, Rice said.

The conference will include talks by experts on topics such as nutrition, exercise, obesity, diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure, signs of a heart attack, and sex and heart disease. Members of Eisenhower's Nutritional Services Department will do cooking demonstrations throughout the conference, Rice said.

Attendees should be 18 or older. Reservations are not required.
