Get Out: Five Ideas for Your Weekend

En garde, eat a short stack and meet a special beaver this weekend.

This could be a weekend of firsts for you. Have you ever seen fencing live? Tried the pancakes at Keedy’s? Watched a troubled soul unlock life lessons with a special beaver puppet? Let us know how it goes.

When/Where: Saber fencing begins at 9:30 a.m., foil begins at 10:30 a.m. and epee starts at 12:30 p.m. this Saturday at Wright Gymnasium at

Why Go: Fencing is crazy. In a good way. It is like watching two astronauts swash buckle. Now is your chance to see this elegant sport live as 60 fencers from the , Desert Fencing Academy, , La Quinta High School, Shadow Hills High School and will compete at this exciting fencing tournament.

Why Go: The pancakes at Keedy’s are thin, buttery and something special. Sit at their original counter and have a plate.

Why Go: If you have not yet seen a trailer for “The Beaver,” I suggest you do so immediately. This Sunday, the audience gets to meet the screenwriter and enjoy a Q&A after the 5 p.m. screening.
