Get Out: Five Ideas For Your Weekend

Let's do the time warp again this weekend.

This weekend is a bit surreal. One can experience opera, the time warp, swimming at the movies and a glimpse at one day on earth in 90 minutes. "Twilight Zone" music goes here.  

Our goal is to make the Get Out planner as reliable as possible, but keep in mind, some events change at the last minute. We advise calling ahead just in case.

1. FREE TRAM RIDES FOR MILITARY

Why Go: The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway wants to say "thank you" to the military by offering free trams rides for those who show military ID throughout the month of July. Check out footage from the top of the tram courtesy of Dennis Daily,

When/Where: 4 p.m.-6 p.m. this Saturday at the Rancho Mirage Library, 71100 Hwy. 111, Rancho Mirage

Why Go: Talented opera singers Christopher Campbell and Shana Blake Hill, along with their music director Victoria Kirsch, will perform incredible pieces from famous operas and Broadway shows at this free concert. Everyone is invited to meet the artists after the performance and enjoy sweets and iced tea too.

When/Where: 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m. this Saturday at Knott's Soak City, 1500 S. Gene Autry Trl., Palm Springs

Why Go: Cool off and relax at Knott's Soak City Dive-In Movie night. The movie selection for the evening, voted for by movie-goers, will be "Spiderman 3."  

Pricing: $5-$14

When/Where: 8 p.m.-11:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Ace Hotel, 701 E. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs

Why Go: This mixer hosted by Kimberly Nichols and Scott Hines was designed as an affordable benefit for those who want to help Desert AIDS Project, but can't always shell out for the black tie galas. For just $45, guests can enjoy unlimited gourmet hors d'oevres and cocktails and dance the night away at the Ace Hotel while helping a sincerely great cause. The "Time Warp" theme means that costumes are strongly encouraged. Swimsuits too.

Why Go: 0n July 24, 2010 thousands of people from all over the world uploaded their own footage to YouTube in order to help document a single day on our planet. Oscar-winning director Kevin MacDonald pieced it all together into a 90-minute masterpiece.

The Palme D'or will show the movie for one night only, on the one year anniversary of the day when all the videos were captured.
