High Wind Advisory For The Desert Cities

High winds are expected to sweep through the Coachella Valley this afternoon and evening, continuing overnight

A wind advisory has been posted for the Coachella Valley for the overnight hours, as stronger that normal west winds are expected.

Winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour have already been reported along Interstate 10 and in Desert Hot Springs.

The National Weather Service says that a strong pressure gradient moving across Southern California, combined with a strong off shore marine layer, will bring winds of up to 50 miles-per-hour to the valley this evening.

The winds are expected to be strongest near the Banning Pass, while drivers all along Interstate 10 are being warned to expect blowing sand and possibly dangerous driving conditions, especially for high profile vehicles.
