Highway 111 Project On Schedule

Construction is slated to wrap up by the end of October or early November, according to a city official.

Construction on Highway 111 in Indian Wells, which has snarled traffic over the summer, is on schedule to wrap up this fall, a city official said.

"We still have a month and a half of road work and repaving,'' said Paul Goble, public works director for the city of Indian Wells.

He added that residents should continue to use Fred Waring Drive as a detour to keep traffic light for residents in that area.

During the project, workers are installing landscape medians and a reclaimed water irrigation system, Goble said.

Lanes have been reduced to one lane in both direction and the speed limit has been lowered to 35 mph from 50-55 mph, according to Goble.

Those restrictions has led to backups into neighboring La Quinta and Palm Desert.

Future work is planned from Cook Street to the Palm Desert border, but that may not happen for some time, he said.
