Low Pressure System Drops Temps, Brings Winds

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and a 20 percent chance of rain are expected in the first in a series of a storms that will last through Monday.

A late winter storm moving inland across Southern California brought a chance of rain and prompted a wind advisory for the Palm Desert area Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory goes into effect at noon and will last until 10 p.m. Tuesday, the weather service reported. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph were expected with gusts up to 50 mph.

Dust and sand may decrease visibility in some areas, including Interstate 10.

The desert could see scattered showers throughout the day, forecasters said. A high of 72 degrees was forecast for Tuesday with a low of 58 degrees.

A second storm will arrive tonight, possibly bringing up to .10 of an inch of rain on Wednesday, the weather service said.

Stronger winds were expected Wednesday, according to the NWS.
