More Snow Expected In Local Mountains

A winter weather advisory was issued from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday for elevations above 4,500 feet.

It may be spring, but more snow is expected in the mountains above Palm Desert tonight and tomorrow night, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory was issued from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Thursday for elevations above 4,500 feet, and snow levels could come down to 3,500 feet by Thursday morning.

"A fast-moving Pacific weather system will bring snow and gusty winds for late today through late tonight," the Weather Service stated in the advisory. "A similar weather system, with slightly higher snow levels is expected for Thursday night through early Friday."

From 4 to 8 inches of snow were forecast for the overnight storm above 4,500 feet, with winds 15 to 25 miles per hours and gusts to 35 mph.

Visibility could be near zero at times, with snow, blowing snow and dense fog, the Weather Service warned. Residents and travelers in the mountains should prepare for hazardous winter weather and possible road closures.
