Palm Desert To Remember 9/11

Two separate events are set in the upcoming week at Civic Center Park and the College of the Desert.

A special concert at Civic Center Park and a vigil at the College of the Desert are among the ways Palm Desert will remember the 10th anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The free concert, sponsored by the cities of Palm Desert and Palm Springs, will begin at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 in the amphitheater.

The 75-minute patriotic program will feature participation by first responders including representatives from various Coachella Valley fire and police departments, as well as a color guard, and bagpipes.

"Our goals for this vigil are simple: to remember the victims of that tragic day 10 years ago, and to celebrate the coming together of America and outpouring of patriotism and unity that followed," Aheram said.

College faculty, students, alumni and members of the community were invited to attend, he said.

Speakers of the event, which is hosted by the Student Senate of the Associated Students of College of the Desert, include Student Senate President Simon Myers, COD President Jerry Patton, Palm Desert Mayor Pro Tem Robert Spiegel, and Assemblyman Brian Nestande of the 64th Assembly District.
