Roads Closed Around Indio for Stagecoach Festival

Police will close off roads around Empire Polo Ground, will delay travellers heading into the east valley.

More traffic jams are expected in and around Indio this
weekend, when the three-day Stagecoach Country Music Festival gets under way.

The gates at the Empire Polo Club open at 11 a.m. Friday, and those
headed to the concert should expect delays when traveling through Indio and La Quinta, Indio human resources manager Jim Curtis said.

The new pickup and dropoff point for taxis and others this year will be
at Avenue 52 and Madison Street.
Closed roads include:
-- Avenue 49 between Hjorth Street and Monroe Street;
-- Avenue 50 between Madison Street and Jackson Street;
-- Hjorth between avenues 49 and 50; and
-- Madison between avenues 49 and 52.
Unlike previous years, no pedestrians will be allowed on Monroe and Madison
streets between avenues 49 and 52, Curtis said.

Around starting and ending times, traffic is expected to backup on:
-- southbound Jefferson Street, from Interstate 10 to Avenue 52;
-- southbound Washington Street, from I-10 to Avenue 52;
-- southbound Monroe, from I-10 to Avenue 52;
-- Highway 111 at Jefferson;
-- Highway 111 at Monroe;
-- the eastbound I-10 exit at Jefferson; and
-- the eastbound I-10 exit at Monroe.

For alternate north-south routes, drivers can use Washington, Jackson,
Calhoun Street and Golf Center Parkway, Curtis said. Alternate east-west routes include Fred Waring Drive, Miles Avenue, Avenue 52 and Avenue 48.
