Roadwork To Close Hovely Lane East

Starting Tuesday, workers will install a main line storm drain.

Work on the second phase of drainage and intersection improvements on Cook Street at Hovley Lane East will shut down .

Beginning Tuesday, December 27, and continuing round the clock through Friday, December 30, workers will be installing a main line storm drain in the intersection, according to city spokesman David Hermann.

Hovley Lane East will be closed to through traffic and only right turns will be allowed. Cook Street traffic will have left turn restrictions, but through traffic and right turns will be allowed.

This portion of the project is expected to have the greatest impact on traffic and major delays in and around the intersection are expected. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Country Club Drive, Fred Waring Drive, and Portola Avenue.

Once the storm drain is installed, workers will refill the 15-foot-deep trench and base paving will occur.

The $2.5 million project to improve traffic flow and drainage on Cook Street between Hovley and Country Club Drive is expected to be completed in February 2012.
