Strong, Gusty Winds Return To Desert
According to the National Weather Service, the mountains will be struck with gusts up to 60 mph.
Strong gusty winds were reported in the Palm Desert-area and other parts of Riverside County today, on the first day of winter.
An upper level low pressure system over Arizona and surface high pressure over the Great Basin will bring strong offshore winds into Friday morning, with strongest winds through and below passes and canyons, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency issued a high wind warning for the Inland Empire from 6 a.m. today to 1 p.m. Friday. Winds will be 25-35 mph through Friday morning, with gusts up to 75 mph, the Weather Service advised.

A less serious wind advisory is scheduled for the Inland Empire from 1 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.
In the mountains, a wind advisory was scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and a more serious high wind warning was scheduled from 6 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Friday. According to the Weather Service, the mountains will be struck with gusts up to 60 mph.

"Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,'' the Weather Service advised.
According to the agency, winds will gradually weaken Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
