Temperatures To Dip Back Down To 80s

Those triple digit temperatures are not here to stay.

A cool off is expected starting Sunday following temperatures that reached into the triple digits this past week in Palm Desert, according to the National Weather Service.

The mercury hit 101 degrees Thursday and was expected to be at least that hot Friday, the weather service reported.

But temps were expected to cool off on Saturday with a high of 97 degrees, falling to a high of 89 on Sunday, according to the NWS.

Monday should be even cooler with a high of 80, forecasters said.

The cool off is due to a marine layer at the coast that is making its way inland, according to Tina Stall, a NWS meteorologist based in San Diego.

"The coast is already experiencing that cool off,'' Stall said.

The average temperature in the Coachella Valley in May is 91 degrees, she said.
