Thousands Lose Power Across Valley

Southern California Edison reported that 13,000 customers were without power in Palm Springs, and some 1,800 had no electricity in Cathedral City.

Palm Desert was largely spared damage from a wind storm that swept through the Coachella Valley Saturday, but more than 13,000 customers were left without power in Palm Springs.

In Palm Desert, 34 Southern California Edison customers were without power south of El Paseo because of the storm conditions, Edison reported, adding that power should be restored by 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

An old tree toppled at Ironwood Park in Palm Desert on Saturday afternoon, but no injuries were reported.

Katie Little wrote on Palm Desert Patch's Facebook page that the fallen tree was beloved by her family.

"My kids loving climbing that tree. I can only imagine how that sun shade was floppin around," Little wrote.

In Palm Springs, more than 13,200 Southern California Edison customers were without electricity, according to the power company. In Cathedral City, some 1,800 customers were without power.

For the western Coachella Valley cities, estimates for power restorations ranged from Sunday morning to the afternoon.

Wind gusts up to 90 mph were reported there, according to the National Weather Service.

The was also shut down because of high winds, stranding several people on Mount San Jacinto.
