USPS Will Process Passports This Saturday

Locations around Riverside County will accept the applications without appointments.

Travelers will be able to apply for passports without taking time off from work Saturday, Sept. 17 in Riverside County.

No appointments are necessary, according to Eva Jackson, a spokesperson for the USPS.

The locations that will be open and processing passports are:

  • La Quinta Post Office, 79125 Corporate Center Drive, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Mountain Center Post Office, 29470 U.S. Highway 243, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Murrieta Carrier Annex, 39571 Los Alamos, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To obtain a passport for the first time, applicants need proof of U.S. citizenship and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license, Jackson said.

A certified copy of a birth certificate (not a California abstract or photocopy) is the best proof of citizenship, she said.

The fee for a Passport Book for first-time adult participants is $135 and $55 for a Passport Card. 

The fee for minors under the age of 16 is $105 for a Passport Book and $40 for a Passport Card. Parents applying for Passport Books for children under the age of 16 must both be present along with the child (with exceptions).

An expedited service fee of $60, plus Express Mail postage, will reduce processing time to less than three weeks (normally it is 4-6 weeks).  Passport photos are $15. Payment accepted in form of cash, checks or money orders only.
