Cyclists of all levels are gearing up for the second annual Palm Desert Century Ride on Nov. 10, starting at the University Park in Palm Desert.

This event promises a high quality ride, providing some of the best scenery, terrain and challenge for cycling enthusiasts. Sponsored by the Desert Recreation District, the Palm Desert Century Ride is one of several annual events promoted by Shadow Tour, LLC located in San Diego.

A dream of Shadow Tour founders, Jim Knight and Larry Gitman, the Palm Desert Century Ride provides bikers with an opportunity to finish a course designed to match their skills. From the serious cyclist to the person who includes biking in their fitness regimen, this event provides 20, 50, 62 and 100 mile options, as well as the 130 mile "Super Century".

"It's not really about racing and competing, although they can. While we encourage people to stretch themselves, it's about finishing to your skill level" commented Jim Knight, co-founder of Shadow Tour.

The event is expected to bring 1,000 riders to the valley. Knight, a West Point graduate, and his partner have produced more than 21 previous Century rides.

Bikers can register at: <http://www.shadowtour.com/Century_Rides/Palm_Desert.htm

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Desert Recreation District's "Trips for Kids". The program provides mountain biking classes and outings for at-risk youth throughout the Coachella Valley. Through positive role models and individual mentoring, the program teaches personal responsibility, life skills and environmental awareness.

Under-served and disadvantaged young people learn the joy of mountain biking, while gaining self-confidence through personal achievement. Donations to support "Trips for Kids" can be made at: https://active.com/donate/PalmDesertCentury12

Interested in volunteering for the ride? The Desert Recreation District also needs volunteers to provide support and supplies to bikers along the route. To volunteer, call: 760-347-3484.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.

Dorothy you actually believe criminals can't get guns without a background check. Wow are youRead More naive. Just because YOU don't understand why some people want a particular weapon...does not mean you can impose your ownership standards on someone else. Suppose I suggest you don't need the particular car you drive or the particlar beverage you drink? I see you are opposed to hunting. How do you feel about abortion? Typical liberal double standard at play here??

Totally agree. This is just the beginning of a gun grab. All it will accomplish is furtherRead More restrictions on law abiding citizens. Chicago is a perfect example. Strictest gun control in the nation and highest gun crime and murder rate. Criminals do not comply with the law. Only legal citizens will lose their rights to own the weapon of their choice. Liberals are all about choice when it comes to killing an unborn, but when it comes to a lawful gunowner's choice it's a different story altogether.
