The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City unveiled its new technology lab Tuesday, which was funded by a grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation. The lab, part of a recently refurbished teen center, boasts 23 new HP PCs and four Apple video production stations.

“This is an exciting day, during our first week of summer camp, to open the technology lab,” said Scott Robinson, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City. “Without the funding from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, this would be an empty room. Now it is where kids can create and even work toward school and career goals.”

Throughout the school year, the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City sees about 1000 1st – 12th graders through its doors, with even more coming during summer camps, which begin this week. After 30 years of serving the needs of the community’s youth, the clubhouse opened a dedicated teen center in September 2012.

“The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City came to us with a specific request to enhance its teen center with a technology lab,” said Christopher McGuire, Vice President of Programs for the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation. “Seeing first-hand what the kids are doing with this technology once it is available to them is very rewarding. We see safe and supervised youth programs, like those offered through Boys & Girls Clubs, supporting child development and creating stronger communities.”

Along with the new hardware purchased with funds from the Berger Foundation, a contribution from Keller Williams Realty supplied software that is already being incorporated into summer programming.

Ronald Auen, Christopher McGuire, Douglass Vance and Catharine Reed, from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation, joined Heath Hilgenberg, of Keller Williams Realty, Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis and other local dignitaries and supporters at today’s anticipated opening of the technology lab. The lab and teen center is open during the clubhouse’s regular operating hours.
