Grand Opening of the new Coachella Valley Rescue Mission

The public is invited to join in the celebration at the Grand Opening of the new Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.  Dubbed “O Happy Day”, the event is scheduled for February 21 beginning at 2pm, and will include live entertainment by Frank DiSalvo, light refreshments, tours and speakers including graduates and current program clients.

The groundbreaking for the 43,000 sq. ft. complex took place in late 2010 and staff and clients moved into the new buildings just before Thanksgiving.

“We are so thrilled to be settled in and to now throw the doors open and welcome in members of the community so they can see what has been created with their support,” said Executive Director Darla Burkett.  “It will be a joyous day and one we have been looking forward to for a long time.”

The Rescue Mission serves more than 550 meals per day, houses 100 individuals in their cold weather shelter nightly, and houses up to 150 residents for up to one year in a variety of programs to help prepare them to reenter the community and be successful.
