Personnel with the California Highway Patrol based in Indio are seeking donations for their CHiPs for Kids toy drive.

"The California Highway Patrol's annual holiday toy drive is well underway, but many toys are still needed for the children in need here in the Coachella Valley," CHP Officer Mike Radford said Thursday.

Indio CHP personnel are taking part in events including:

- The Big 106's 8th annual CHiPs for Kids radio-thon with Randy Houston, 6 a.m. to about 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Palm Springs Motors in Cathedral City.

- AOW's "Ghosts of Christmas Bash" Extreme Pro Wrestling CHiPs for Kids event with Mix 100.5, Morales and Galindo Marketing, 98.5 KDES and KPSI, at 4 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Amistad High School gym at 83501 Dillon Road in Indio. Admission is $10, or bring a new unwrapped toy of greater value to get in free.

"Every toy counts so please donate a new, unwrapped toy and help a needy child in the Coachella Valley," Radford said. "If you are unable to donate at an event, bring a toy to any Walgreens in the Coachella Valley, Mathis Brothers in Indio, the KESQ/CBS Local 2 news station, the Indio CHP Office or Assemblyman Manuel Perez' Office in Indio."

For more info call the CHP Indio office at (760) 772-8900.
