Blogger Joe Jervis will serve as national grand marshal for the 27th annual Greater Palm Springs Pride Parade later this year.
Jervis will join community grand marshals Melanie Jones, Ellen Zimmerman, Mark Jones and Brian Vatcher, and other to-be-announced marshals for the Nov. 3 parade in downtown Palm Springs. The parade is part of the Palm Springs Pride Celebration on Nov. 1-3. This year's theme is "It's Time."
Jervis is the author of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender news and culture blog Joe.My.God., which is in the top 100 most-read political blogs in the country. He is an editor-at-large and senior writer for Pride magazine, and his work has appeared in other publications. He is a frequent guest on talk radio, and his work has been cited in national news outlets. He has been honored by media and LGBT groups for his work, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom proclaimed Oct. 10, 2009 as "Joe Jervis Day," according to Greater Palm Springs Pride.
The parade's grand marshal and celebrity grand marshal will be announced in the next few weeks. The grand marshals will also be recognized at the Pride Honors awards ceremony on Oct. 4.
