Local Author's E-book to go Hollywood

Kurt Sipolski's "Too Early for Flowers: The Story of a Polio Mother" is optioned for the big screen.

Palm Desert writer Kurt Sipolski is seeing one of his stories heading for the big screen.

The local author's e-book, "Too Early for Flowers: The Story of a Polio Mother", written about Sipolski's mother, Iris Mondy, has been optioned for film by actress Ksenia Solo and her production company OnFire films.

Solo feels connected to Sipolski's story and the effect it has on us as a whole.

"I am 24 years old and I feel fortunate that I live in a time and place where polio is not robbing the lives of innocent people, especially children," the actress said.

"When I read 'Too Early for Flowers' and learned about this terrifying disease and the devastating effect it had on humanity I was deeply moved and felt that as a young woman, as an artist, I needed to tell Kurt's story. It's not only a story about a boy who was deprived of his childhood and a big part of his adult life but also about his mother, an ambitious young woman who had to give up on her dreams and fight for her sons life, by his side, for the rest of her life.

"Even though this is the story of one family, it is the story of thousands. I am truly honored to have the opportunity make Too Early For Flowers come alive on the big screen....  I feel incredibly lucky that I met Kurt Sipolski, was introduced to his novella and fell in love with it. I am very determined to use my voice as an artist to raise awareness and help make the world polio free forever."

The memoir from which it originated was first published in The Desert Sun and eventually in newspapers around the world.

"That polio era, and what inspired mothers and families is a story definitely worth telling. I am over the moon that Ksenia wants to take it on," Sipolski said.  "I know she is very busy filming the TV series in Toronto, but she is very passionate and motivated."

The novella is available online only at Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, and Scribd.com.

Solo will appear at this weekend's ComicCon in San Diego as part a panel talking about her SyFy Channel series "Lost Girl".
