Free Health Fair, Obamacare Signup Event in Palm Desert

UCR Health, the clinical arm of the UC Riverside School of Medicine, will hold a free health fair and sign-up event for health insurance in Palm Desert Friday.

People who attend the event, which starts at 10 a.m. at the UCR Palm Desert campus' Building B auditorium, can get help enrolling in Covered California -- the state health insurance exchange established in response to the federal Affordable Care Act -- and Medi-Cal. Additionally, UCR Health physicians will offer health screenings, according to UCR spokesman Iqbal Pittalwala.

Applying for a Covered California health plan can take up to 90 minutes, and English- and Spanish-speaking enrollment counselors will be available, Pittalwala said.
