BREAST CANCER DIARIES: Love/Hate Appointments

The dreaded follow up appointment for a post-surgery mammography brings fears as well as hope.

This week I had my first return engagement with the mammogram machine after cancer was removed from my right breast six months ago.  I was anxious to know that the cancer was gone, but also fearful that it wasn’t.  That is why it was a love/hate appointment.

At Desert Regional’s Comprehensive Care Center, I saw Dr. Laura Lee, my surgeon.  She reviews the mammography pictures and verified that there was no cancer!  She did say that fluid had formed in the scar tissue area, but that it would heal naturally.  I was happy that I faced my fears and all is well.  In six months I will gear up for a bilateral (both breasts) mammogram.   Woo hoo!
