Learning to let go of three high school teenagers

A Palm Desert mom tries to let go of the reigns and let the kids fly on their own. NOT!

It just dawned on me that my babies are ALL in high school now at Palm Desert High. When did this happen? I am so not ready to be a mommy of all high school kids!

So, we have our jock of the house. My son will be a junior (gulp) this year. Typical guy, down to earth, plays football and wrestling. He's gotta be the biggest gentle giant in the world.

Then we have our cheerleader. She'll be a sophomore this year. She's our girly-girl. Total princess, loves shopping, socializing, and her family. She's also a gentle soul, but I feel sorry for the first person that crosses her, because she's a feisty one too.

And lastly, we have our baby. She'll be a freshman (double gulp) this year. She hasn't figured out what sports she wants to play, or what role to fit in. But if mommy has her way, she will be a jock just like I was. She's our shy one. Soft spoken, and yet demands your attention when speaking.

My kids are my world. I live and breathe for them. And though it is so hard letting them make their own choices, mistakes, and memories, I promised them that I will "try" to back off and let them do their thing. I am the type of mommy that is all up in their business, will fight their battles, and call the President of the United States for them if I had to. I'm mommy, it's my job!

This year, I'm going to refrain from emailing their teachers a million times, calling counselors, and emailing the board of education and entire school district. Yes, I did all of that in one single school year. I will try a new approach, and will let the kids work out their own issues, and guide them to find their solutions.

But who am I kidding? I'll be all up in their mix again this year. Hang on children! It's going to be a bumpy fun ride, again.
