UPDATE: Lasby Court Hearing Continued Until September

This story updated at 2:45 p.m.

A continuance has been granted for Amanda Lasby's defense attorney as he asked for time to go through new discovery evidence uncovered by the prosecution.

Lasby, 26, of Palm Desert, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, assaulting a child causing great bodily injury and willful child cruelty stemming from her daughter's March 30, 2011 death.

Deputy Public Defender Richard Verlato said he had recently received the new discovery from the DA's office and needed time to examining the evidence. The continuance request to September 12 was granted by Superior Court Judge William S. Lebov.

Lasby was arrested Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at a home on Ocotillo Drive near Grapevine Street in Palm Desert after a coroner's report showed the child’s injuries were consistent with abuse, said Sgt. Mike Lujan of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The forensic evidence revealed that the cause of death was attributed to blunt force trauma, Lujan said.

Lasby is being held at the Indio Jail in lieu of $1 million.
