Rahier and Garvey Go Pro, CIF Honors Aztecs

Two former Aztecs sign to play pro baseball; three players named to the 2012 All-CIF team.

Palm Desert High graduates Tanner Rahier and Ryan Garvey have taken the first steps on the road to Major League Baseball. 

Rahier, drafted in the second round of this month’s Major League Baseball draft, has reported to the Cincinnati Reds facility in Goodyear, AZ.   The Indian Wells resident played for the Aztecs his freshman year, then joined an advanced wood-bat league out of San Bernardino.

Garvey, a 2011 graduate was drafted and unsigned by Philadelphia in the 2011 draft. After playing for Riverside City College, the son of baseball great Steve Garvey, signed as a 33rd round pick with Colorado last week.  He reported to Grand Junction yesterday to start his pro career.

Closer to home, The CIF-Southern Section has honored Brian Serven and the Palm Desert Aztecs, placing three players on the All-CIF Division 4 team. 

Junior Brian Serven was named Division 4 Player of the Year.  Seniors Brooks Kriske (P/OF) and John Schuknecht (2B)  were also given All-CIF honors.  Serven will return as the Aztecs ace pitcher next season.  Kriske has signed to play with USC, while Schuknecht will travel further north to play with Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
