Tennis Fans Wait Out Wet Weather

Tennis fans in Indian Wells are bracing for a windy and possibly wet day Saturday, as a strong Pacific storm moves through the region this weekend.

Rain began to fall just after 2 p.m. Saturday, postponing a semi-finals matchup between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer until 5 p.m.

Fans cleared out of the stadium looking for shelter, but returned in force once play got underway.

Forecasters warned that between 0.05 to 0.15 inches of rain could fall through 9 p.m. Saturday.

A high wind warning is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The strongest winds are expected on Saturday afternoon and evening, with gusts up to 65 mph and isolated gusts of 75 mph expected, the NWS reported.

Up to two feet of snow is expected above 6,000 feet on Saturday in the mountains surround the Coachella Valley, with six to 12 inches at 4,000 feet, forecasters warned.

On Sunday, the snow level could drop between 2,000 to 4,000 feet.

Saturday's high is likely to reach 71 degrees with a low of 48 degrees, the weather service reported.
