ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT
Yesterday, the occupiers at Palm Desert Civic Center Park received a letter from the City of Palm Desert wherein the city explained that they would no longer recognize the right of the peaceful protesters to peacefully assembly and exercise their legitimate free speech.
This letter was followed by a visit from Lt. William Sullivan, the assistant chief of police for Indian Wells and head of the riot police for Riverside County Sheriff's Department in the area, where he declared his intent to evict protesters that night. He stated that his men will forcefully remove the occupiers, either with a citation or arrests, from the encampment.
That night, due to a successful call for mass action, over 40 of our fellow brothers and sisters from all walks of life and ages, gathered for the General Assembly to discuss individuals' intent and strategy and to declared: THE FIRST AMENDMENT IS OUR PERMIT.
The occupiers of Occupy Coachella Valley temporarily moved tables and supplies to a nearby public sidewalk while eight occupiers held the space in the park.
The police arrived a few minutes before midnight where they once again declared our expression of free speech to be in violation of city's petty camping ordinances. We listened, but we continue to occupy. They told the protesters that the police will be back again that night to evict the protesters. Throughout the night, fellow protesters kept watch and continued the occupation, but the the police did not follow through that threat.
THE POLICE DID NOT FOLLOW THROUGH THEIR THREAT BECAUSE YOU THE 99% ANSWERED THE CALL. BECAUSE YOU THE 99% BROUGHT THE NOISE. BECAUSE YOU THE 99% DECLARED: WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED, WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED, WE ARE THE 99%!
