How to Prevent Summertime Employee Theft
As many companies are hiring temporary seasonal workers for the summer, they should be aware of the increased risk of employee theft that comes with these new hires. There are a number of ways that businesses can mitigate these risks, however. First of all, companies should do what they can to prevent employees from rationalizing the theft, which can be achieved through hiring practices, training, and good retention policies. The second step companies should take is to eliminate the opportunity for employee theft as much as possible. This includes minimizing blind spots, particularly near entrances, and looking for cluttered areas that can be used to hide stolen merchandise. Finally, managers should be empowered to discuss theft risks and let employees know they are working to prevent it.
