Hiking expert Philip Ferranti to discuss the benefits of hiking in the Coachella Valley – March 8

The Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino will once again host well-known hiking expert and author Philip Ferranti on Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m., in the Oliphant Auditorium.

 

Ferranti’s presentation will include colorful slides of local and nearby hiking destinations, including the Mecca Hills and the “Big Split Rock” Slot Canyon. He will provide information on trails, hiking seasonality/weather, equipment, maps, geology and wildflower hikes, as well as local hiking club opportunities. He will also discuss how hiking supports health potential, reduces stress and enhances physical/emotional/mental well-being.

Ferranti is an expert on hiking in and around the Coachella Valley. A resident of the desert for over 25 years, Ferranti has authored the all-time best-selling books: "75 Great Hikes in and Near Palm Springs" and "140 Great Hikes in and Near Palm Springs." He has also written the regional best-seller, "Colorado State Parks: A Complete Recreation Guide" and the nationally acclaimed book: "Hiking! The Ultimate Natural Prescription for Health & Wellness." His latest book is titled, “Love and Freedom – Pathways to Personal Transformation.”

He also is the founder of the Coachella Valley Hiking Club, the desert’s largest hiking club. For the past twenty years, he has helped organize and advise many hiking groups/clubs and has personally conducted over 400 guided hikes. 

 

There will be a book signing following the lecture. Admission to the event is $5 cash at the door, which includes parking. Students are free with ID.
