Federer Bounces Nadal in Anticipated Desert Matchup

Roger Federer made quick work of his chief rival Rafael Nadal, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals in Indian Wells.

"It's been a great week so far, and it's another opportunity tomorrow to make it even more special," Federer said after the match. "Obviously conditions were tough today, and against one of my greatest rivals, it's always nice if you come out on top. So I'm very, very happy."

About three-quarters of the crowd waited out a nearly three hour rain delay, to see the much anticipated first meeting between Federer and Nadal at the BNP Paribas Open.

Nadal said the conditions were tough, but credited Federer for his high level of play.

"The excuse, the real excuse was (Federer) played better than me. That's the best excuse that I can find, and that's it," Nadal said.

The 30-year-old Swiss improved his record to to 21-2 on the season and is 10-18 in his matches against the 25-year-old Spaniard.

Federer will look to avenge a Davis Cup loss to in the finals Sunday, when he tries for his third title of the season.

"John is playing great tennis at the moment, and I'm sure for a long period of time," Federer said. "It's great and exciting for American tennis, and I'm happy it's happening in the finals, this rematch for me. So I look forward to that a lot."

Federer could tie Nadal for the most ATP Masters tournament victories with a victory.
