Federer Moves Into Semi-Finals With Ease

Roger Federer advanced to the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open and could face rival Rafael Nadal for the first time in the desert.

World No. 3 Roger Federer advanced to the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Juan Martin del Porto Friday.

Federer continued his dominance over del Porto beating the Argentine for the fourth time this season. His other victories came in the Australian Open quarterfinals, the semis in Dubai and the final in Rotterdam.

"This was a great match, I sort of expected myself to come out and play a good match today, after the struggle I had against Bellucci," Federer said.

The match hinged on a controversial call during the first game, which lasted 11 minutes.

The Hawk-eye ball tracking system failed to work when del Potro challenged a call and Federer held serve after saving two break points.

"After that I was not concentrating in the match," del Porto said, adding it was tough to match Federer's high level of play.

Federer is looking to win his first title in Indian Wells since 2006. Today's win marks his 250th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 match win.

The victory also means tennis fans may be treated to the first-ever Federer-Nadal match at Indian Wells.

No. 2 Rafael Nadal struggled against Argentine David Nalbandian, but ultimately came out on top in three sets.

In the post-match news conference, Federer said he has no preference who he faces in the semis, saying he's played great matches with both Nadal and Nalbandian.
