Animal Control Rescues Kitten from Indio Drain

The kitty will soon be available for adoption at the Thousand Palms animal shelter.

An animal control officer pulled a kitten from a storm drain near a construction site in Indio Monday, an animal services spokesman said.

Someone reported Sunday that the kitten -- now dubbed "Stormy" -- was inside the drain near the construction site of a Walmart near Interstate 10. An animal control officer heard the feline inside, so he set a "humane" trap and retrieved the kitten earlier today, Riverside County Animal Services spokesman John Welsh said.

He said the officer gave the kitten water, and she was in good condition at the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms.

She will be available for adoption after the standard four-day holding period, Welsh said.
