12 Left Homeless in Morning Fire

An early morning fire at a multi-unit complex has left a dozen people without a home.

Twelve people were evacuated after a fire at a multi-unit residential complex in Palm Desert this morning.

According to Melody Hendrickson of CAL FIRE, the fire in the Desert Oasis Apartments, 77-777 Country Club Drive, was reported just before 7:30 a.m.   Crews arrived to find the middle unit of a multiple family, single-story building fully engulfed.  

A total of ten engines and 41 firefighters had the flames out within one hour.  No injuries have been reported.  A total of three apartments were damaged in the fire, while the firefighting effort damaged six others.

Red Cross is asisting those affected by the fire. 

No damage estimate has been released.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
